Hayes Residence Hall is one of the original five buildings of Queens College.  Charles Christian Hook designed the residence hall as well as the Watkins Art Building.  Hook adapted stylistic effects for an eclectic approach to the Georgian style. (1)  The buildings were considered extremely modern for their time.  The building was named for Queens alumna and Board of Trustees Member Mariam Cannon Hayes.

In 1994 the building was remodeled by Jenkins Peer Architects, but it still embodies C. C. Hook's original style.  The residence hall houses 72 upper-class students in a suite-style living arrangement. (2) The Hayes Residence Hall was and still is important to Queens University and the Charlotte community.  It offers students a beautiful building to reside while they gain their education at one of the first schools established in Charlotte.  Queens College changed to Queens University and is one of the fastest growing schools in the Charlotte area.  The building stands as an example of Hook's long lasting architectural style.
