Building My Charlotte: The Queen City and its Architects

Mint Museum of Art

resolver-1.jpeg

The Mint Museum of Art signifies a cultural aspect of Charlotte, it was the town's first art museum. Martin E. Boyer designed the Mint Museum of Art, located on Randolph road in the heart of Eastover. Boyer designed the museum after the original United States Mint building was destroyed in 1934. Set within a southern neighborhood of Charlotte, the museum's design compliments the Eastover neighborhood of Neoclassic, Gothic, and Colonial Revival architecture.(1)

The Museum is in the Neoclassic architectural style because of its simplicity and emphasis on shapes. The museum holds many different unique art collections as well as a circulating gallery space. The galleries house art from the ancient America's, ceramics, decrotive art, fashion, European Art, and African Art. This building brought new culture to the city of Charlotte, both in the design of the structure as well as what it contained within the walls. (2)
