Architecture and Community

Architecture has a significant impact on every community. These three architects used their own creativity to impact Charlotte in many unique ways. Here you will see a variety of structures from each architect and an explanation of how the building affected the community.

Charlotte: Then and Now

Travel through time and explore Charlotte through the eyes of Mary Boyer's postcards; Louis Asbury, Charles Hook, and Martin Boyer's designs; and modern photographs that showcase the Queen City's streets from the turn of the twentieth century to modern day.

Introducing New Designs

Drawing from various personal and professional influences, Louis Asbury, Charles Hook, and Martin Boyer introduced famous architectural styles to Charlotte, particuarly European trends of Neoclassicism, Gothic, Colonial Revival, and Tudor Revival.
