Efird's Department Store

Efird's Department Store opened on North Tryon Street on October 19, 1923.  The Efird family had owned and operated the Charlotte Mercantile Company for over twenty years.  This new location boasted it was the only store south of Philadelphia with escalators.  In 1956 it was bought out by its competitor, Belk family stores.  The Bank of America Building stands on the site today.
