Building My Charlotte: The Queen City and its Architects

Myers Park Methodist Church

Louis Asbury was a founding member of Myers Park Methodist Church. In September 1925, ten men met at Asbury's office and established the Church. Asbury began designing while the church met in buildings already on the lot.

The church was completed in 1929 and featured a Gothic style. Asbury's design was so complete that he even designed the pews. In his memoir Asbury wrote, "I had the honor of doing all the architectural work for the church." Myers Park Methodist Church was the only building he mentioned in any detail in his memoir. It is also one of his most influential designs. (1)
