Tudor Revival

Throughout the early 20th century, the Tudor Revival style became a common trend within American residential architecture. It originated where the Gothic Style left off. Rather than a focus on Catholic Cathedrals, like the Gothic Style, the Tudor Revival stems from the English Tudor style made famous by the English Tudor Family that ruled England from the late 1400's til around 1600. Not always residential architecture, the Tudor Revival style is found in museums, libraries, churches, and restaurants. The most famous aspect of Tudor Revival is the "half-timbering," or the wooden panels on the upper half of the structture filled with plaster, high chimneys, and an emphasis on asymmetrical features.(4)
