Colonial Revival

Colonial Revival architecture stems from the Neoclassicism discussed early. However, the initial Colonial Style was a strictly American style. Colonial Revival stems from the Colonial Style, which has no historical roots to Europe. With emphasis on simplicity and symmetry, the height of Colonial Revival was during the 1890’s. Most common with larger residential structures, the eye is drawn to the entrance of the building which is featured at the center. It is argued that Colonial-Revival is the most popular residential design in the US because of its timeless nature; it could be built in the early 19th century or the late 20th and only a trained eye would be able to tell the difference.
